Due to the recent tragic events that took place on September 11th, 2001. The
Alpha Xi Beta Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at
the Community College of Southern Nevada. Undertook a special project to recognize the firefighters, police officers, and all the volunteers who responded in this time of need.
Banners were displayed on all the campuses for students, faculty, staff, and members of the administration to sign to show their support of all their outstanding efforts in this time of need. Also along with these banners donation boxes were displayed for anybody who desired to make a donation to the American Red Cross. Thanks to the over whelming support, and participation of everybody at the Community College of Southern Nevada. We were able to completely fill these banners with signatures, and to raise $1,130.68 for the American Red Cross.
This project would not have been as successful as it was without the support of ASCCSN. President Calvin Hooks and the other officers of our student government that gave of their time to help man the tables and all the students from other student organizations that contributed their time and efforts to make this project a success.
I would also like to thank Bonnie Michelle for the public advertising that was done on behalf of this project, and all the staff of the Cheyenne Bursar's office that took the time to count the donations received. And to especially thank the Provosts of all the campuses in helping us find the best locations for our tables.
I would like to extend a very heart felt thanks to all the students, faculty, staff, and administration that signed our banners and made donations. You are the ones that
Made this project a success and showed the true meaning of Community in the name
